I went to Catholic School for 11 years (K-10) but then attended public school for 11th & 12th grade. The main reason being I wanted to be an engineer and cross-eyed nuns who knew less about math than me when I was 12 along with incredibly under-equipped facilities for science and technology courses simply weren’t cutting it for my aspirations. Oh yeah, there’s also that rampant hypocrisy that ran through that shit-stain of a school. Just one example being that the highest ranking priest drove a Mercedes and had a Rolex, but they were “gifts” from his family so those luxuries didn’t count.
Needless to say I am not a “practicing” Catholic. I am no longer even a Chr-Easter, my wife and I were married in her hometown church but since then I haven’t been in a church for anything other the occasional mass on Christmas Eve, one baptism and a few funerals. I am not a devout atheist or agnostic, all those labels are fucking stupid in my opinion. Atheism is a religion unto itself and they infuriate me almost as much the bible thumping holier-than-thou fucknuts who try to “help” by quoting bible verses (like TBP’s resident village idiot).
One thing I never understood was the saying “It’s part of God’s plan.” I understand that people have different methods of coping with tragedy but what kind of entity has a plan so fucked up that it involves someone’s mother dying from cancer, children dying during childbirth or Nancy Pelosi existing so that the plan can be successful? If all the above is true, then that entity is an asshole. I have personally gone through stages, I have no beef with God/Allah/Whatever he/she/it wants to be called. We talk regularly and I like him but I don’t like his church and most of his followers. He is absolutely not an asshole and if he created us in his likeness then it stupid to think he would have all the strings attached so he could control the implementation of “his plan.” My personal belief is that people who buy into this idea have a great deal of fear in the act of living and all that it entails. Doesn’t make them bad people (as long as they don’t force this belief on others), just overly fearful and constantly wrong about how much control they have (and don’t have) in their lives.
One my awakenings happened at a close friend’s church during a baptism where the priest brought the kids up to front of the church during the homily to explain “original sin”. He flat out told a dozen or so 2-4 year olds they were all sinners. I had to hold back the incredible urge to stand up and tell him “They aren’t sinners. Those little kids are the only people in this church that aren’t sinners; and FUCK YOU for trying to brainwash them!” I actually got up and stewed outside in the parking lot for a good 15 mins afterwards before coming back in for the rest of the service. Like I have said, I have been through it all and know what Catholics are supposed to “believe”. My wife was blown away by how many of the “answers” I had during pre-cana. But it is nothing but more groupthink white-washing of impressionable peoples’ minds to perpetuate the agenda of the religious heirarchy.
This is why I am against infant baptism. Infant baptism is about getting them while they are young and impressionable because if you wait until they can think the numbers will dwindle. It is no different than the idea behind government schools. They aren’t old enough to affirm what “they believe”, if you get baptised as an adult, bully for you but there is little or no proof that either infant or adult baptism was the standard from the onset. In many scriptures it refers to children but children is also used to refer to all of us being the children of God (which includes adults). If you take the meaning of children literally then you are probably a moron and didn’t make it to this point in the article anyway.
The real issues come from people manipulating any and all ideas related to a particular religion to attain their desired goals (almost always nefarious in nature). Sometimes it is only theft, other times it is torture, murder and even genocide.
People in general want to be herded, these sheeple are discarding the most important human trait/gift they at one time possessed; free will. Why would someone create something only to exert 100% control over it. My wife and I created our son and I want him to be nothing but a free and happy critical thinking person. I dont’ have a “plan” for his entire life, to do so would be sociopathic.
Government is perpetually lumping people together, ordering them around, taxing them and murdering them to achieve their agenda. The “State” is the greatest abuser of human rights and “Religion” probably deserves the silver medal. The list of atrocities committed in the name of religion is so long and gruesomely violent (keep in mind I am not singling out Christianity, I am including Judaism, Islam and all of similar ilk) I won’t even bother listing them. People who have 2 brain cells to rub together know examples exist and where to find them (hint: it’s on the internet) and those that don’t think examples exist wouldn’t be affected by any list I toiled compile because their belief structure is in place and are perpetual apologists.
Statists and Religious Zealots have one significant trait in common, they have unwavering faith in people and things undeserving of worship. There has even been a video of a boy who is praying to Obama. I know the title says “for” but if you listen to it, it is “to” Obama.
One worships the “Church” and the other bows to the “State.” Both these types of people deserve the ridicule of critical thinking people.
The Church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster has been around for almost a decade. It came about from religion/school issues in Kansas but I first heard about it shortly after the lawsuits in Dover, PA (somewhat in my backyard between Pennsyl-tucky and Bumfuknowhar) involving creationism, intelligent design and evolution.
I find the idea incredibly funny, I also like the idea of Pirates being “prophets.” It is enlightening because it is ridiculous but not so different than what so many people believe and have faith in. If you read about pastafarianism and get offended; there’s a good chance you’re a fucknut and I pity your friends and loved ones.
There website is http://www.venganza.org/. There is some hilarious information on the site. I visited it for the first time in a few years and really like the idea for a FSM Theme Park that includes creation mountain, pirate ship and of course a beer volcano.
It is definitely good for a laugh and should help people realize that nothing should be taken to seriously, even ourselves and the beliefs we hold so dear.
Happy Humpday everyone!
